It's only natural that the "Greatest RV Rally in the World" would have someone larger than life open it. And so it will be, as legendary actor-comedian Bob Newhart will perform on opening night of The Rally, set for July 22-25 in Louisville, Ky.
Newhart is best known for his role as the psychologist Dr. Robert Hartley on the 1970s TV situation comedy, "The Bob Newhart Show," and as inkeeper Dick Loudon on the 1980s sitcom "Newhart."

The Rally (formerly called the Great North American RV Rally) brings together novice and experienced RVers, who get a chance to meet industry experts, find bargains on RV products and enjoy camaraderie among fellow RV enthusiasts. The annual event features hundreds of dealers and manufacturers displaying the latest and best models; supplier exhibits showcasing thousands of RV-related services and products; informational seminars on RVing; and daytime and evening entertainment.
Rally activities will take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center (the Kentucky State Fairgrounds). Newhart is scheduled to perform on the first night, July 22.
The Rally is sponsored by MotorHome magazine, Good Sam Club, Coast to Coast Resorts, Camping World President's Club, Trailer Life magazine and Woodall's Publications, all owned by Affinity Group Inc. of Ventura, Calif.
On "The Bob Newhart Show," the actor's character, Dr. Hartley, treated patients with problems ranging from everyday neuroses to those with extreme paranoia. In addition to conducting individual sessions, Dr. Hartley was a true believer in group therapy, and those sessions provided some of the most hilarious scenes of the show. Who knows? Perhaps at The Rally, Newhart will lead a big group hug.
